Red Gulch: Claimed Kempton prize

The strong-travelling Red Gulch won the Betfred London Mile Final at Kempton.

Jean-Paul Guillambert was sat noticeably still aboard the 8-1 winner two furlongs out and soon kicked him to the front.

It proved a race-winning move for Ed Walker's charge who took a couple of lengths out of his field.

He still had a length-and-a-half in hand of the chasing pack at the line with Kajima (16-1), Fantasy Gladiator (12-1) and 4-1 favourite Primaeval filling the minor placings.

"I'd like him to now go straight for the Cambridgeshire and if he stays the mile and a furlong, he'll take some beating."
Ed Walker Quotes of the week

"He always travels well, that's why Goodwood suits him so well, and he's not short of ability," said Walker.

Perfect flagbearer

"It's lovely to have a horse like him in my first year and hopefully he'll keep improving.

"I'd like him to now go straight for the Cambridgeshire and if he stays the mile and a furlong, he'll take some beating."

Sponsors Betfred kept Red Gulch at 20-1 for the Newmarket handicap on September 24.
