Eton Rifles: Scored under Kieren Fallon
The heavily backed Eton Rifles won the Betfair Summer Double Second Leg Stakes at Goodwood.
Formerly in the care of Howard Johnson, the six year old gelding was having his first start for David Elsworth who had booked Kieren Fallon to ride the son of Pivotal.
Eton Rifles was settled in midfield behind the early pace by Fallon who pulled his mount out in plenty of time to launch his challenge.
The mud-loving gelding took some time to master his rival but was eventually well on top at the line, scoring by a length from Webbow with Below Zero back in third.
Elsworth's assistant Paul Holley said: "We've only had him for a couple of weeks but he has been doing everything right at home and we thought he had a good chance because of the draw and the ground.
"I suppose they could go for the Ayr Gold Cup if they wanted to, as he would get his ground.
"It's been a good day for the boss, as he has had two more at Newmarket."
