Charlton: Excited by his Newbury winner
Roger Charlton's Top Offer justified his tall home reputation by winning division two of the juvenile maiden at Newbury.
Steve Drowne had his mount positioned over on the far side of the track and once he popped the question, the Dansili colt quickened up smartly.
Fellow newcomer Pulverize tried his best to keep tabs on Top Offer heading inside the final furlong, but the latter was much too strong, passing the post with three and a half lengths in hand.
Charlton said: "You don't often see it in two-year-olds. He's always been so straightforward and he's a wonderful mover.
"We're always looking for nice horses and you have to keep pinching yourself now and again.
"We upped his work and he's been working with older horses. He's always done it nicely.
"Then you get apprehensive because I said to someone this morning I'd be disappointed if he didn't win by three lengths!
"I've always liked him and he's got a great future.
"Cityscape won his novice race last year by nine lengths and I always thought this was potentially a better horse than Cityscape."
Roger Charlton Quotes of the week
"Horses need to be allowed to progress. I'm not one for jumping from a maiden to a Group One, but should he progress, the obvious Group One races are the Dewhurst and the Racing Post Trophy.
"We'll have to see what we run him in next but he's a nice horse and if he takes this race all right we've got to crack on and let him prove himself.
"Cityscape won his novice race last year by nine lengths and I always thought this was potentially a better horse than Cityscape. He runs in a Group One on Monday."
