Cedre Bleu stakes his Triumph Hurdle claim with victory at Newbury
Cedre Bleu staked a Triumph Hurdle claim as he won the Berkshire Stand Bookshop Juvenile Hurdle at Newbury on Wednesday.
Paul Nicholls' gelding attracted market support and the 100-30 shot bounded clear from Tartan De Sarti before two hurdles from home.
A strapping individual, he was ridden with plenty of confidence by jockey Sam Thomas and was well clear at the line, however Nicholls is not sure that he will make it to Chetlenham, saying: "He's not that sort of horse - he's a chaser for next autumn.
"You only have to look at the size of him.
"He won't do much this season, maybe a run or two more at somewhere like here again."
Nicky Henderson's charge, sent off the 1-2 favourite, failed to jump with any fluency and looked to flail on the testing ground.
Sky Bet were the first bookmakers to react, inserting the winner into the Triumph Hurdle betting at 20-1.
