Prince Of Pirates leads over the last.

Prince Of Pirates leads over the last.

Al Ferof's eagerly-anticipated hurdling debut was an anti-climax as he fell two out in the EBF "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Paul Nicholls' charge finished second to Cue Card in the Champion Bumper last season and set out to make all under Noel Fehily.

He was still in front of Prince Of Pirates two out but took a crunching fall at that obstacle, leaving his market rival clear.

Tony McCoy had an anxious moment or two as Robin De Creuse loomed up as a major danger after the final flight, but his mount found plenty when shaken up to score by three and three-quarter lengths.

Winning trainer Nicky Henderson said: "He's a very nice horse. AP was under the impression that he might be helped by a little bit further, but in any case, we're miles away from talking about things about the Supreme Novices' Hurdle."
