Alan King's Manyriverstocross (3-1) successfully stepped up to two and a half miles in the betinternet.com Winter Novices' Hurdle at Sandown.
The Ebor sixth was tapped for toe on his most recent start at Ascot and found the longer trip to his liking to be installed as the 12-1 favourite with totesport for the Baring Bingham Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
It was a slight relief for King as his massive string have yet to really fire.
King said: "This was the obvious place to come after he got out-sprinted in a slowly run race at Ascot.
"He does like some cut in the ground but I was slightly worried about going two and a half miles on testing ground, but he has handled it really well.
"He is in the Ladbroke Hurdle but I think he will want a break now and I'll bring him back in the New Year for something like the Challow Hurdle."
