Nicholls - had to settle for second.
Trainer Paul Nolan registered his second winner of the Open meeting in the final race as Shinrock Paddy (15-2) forged clear in the Cheltenham Business Club Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.
Ridden by his owner Barry Connell, the winner made every yard of the running and was punched clear turning for home.
At that stage Express Leader, representing Paul Nicholls, went in pursuit along with Nicky Henderson's Madame Mado.
However neither could make any impact on the 15/2 winner who was full value for his eight lengths win.
Express Leader just got the better of the battle for the forecast spot.
