Es Que Love (centre): Newbury hopeful

Clive Cox is praying the ground does not go against Es Que Love ahead of the Betfred Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

The going was described as good to soft, good in places at the Berkshire track on Thursday and more rain is forecast before drier conditions return on big-race day.

Es Que Love landed his first Pattern-race success when lowering the colours of last season's champion two-year-old Toormore in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, and Cox is very much eyeing this weekend's Group Two contest.

"He's in great form. I'm just hopeful we don't get the upper end of the forecast with the showers," said the Lambourn trainer.

"This fella has got a cracking chance, but getting the bottom end of the showers that are forecast would be appreciated."

Es Que Love was among a field of seven declared that includes last year's winner Gregorian.

John Gosden's five-year-old was only in action on Sunday when he found the heavy ground tough going and he was well-beaten behind Garswood in the Group One Prix Maurice de Gheest.

Richard Hannon is doubly-represented with Producer and Professor, but the former was engaged in the totepool Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday afternoon.

Breton Rock, Chil The Kite and Brazos complete the septet.
