Calipto: Warm favourite for JCB Triumph Hurdle

Calipto: Warm favourite for JCB Triumph Hurdle

A total of sixteen runners will head to post for the JCB Triumph Hurdle on Friday.

Paul Nicholls is responsible for the likely favourite Calipto, and the former French-trained runner bids to win his third race on the spin for new connections.

John Ferguson relies upon Musselburgh winner, Broughton as dual-purpose handler, John Quinn saddles two in the race with Pearl Castle and Rutherglen.

Nicky Henderson gives another chance to Royal Irish Hussar following his disappointing run at Doncaster in December and he has been declared along with one-time ante-post favourite for the race, Kentucky Hyden.

Ireland have a predictably strong hand and Guitar Pete aims to follow in the hoofprints of last year's winner, Our Conor, for Dessie Hughes.

Tiger Roll, who finished behind him at Leopardstown, will attempt to reverse form along with Plinth, who was third in the contest.

Plinth will again be ridden by AP McCoy and will aim to roll back the years for Aidan O'Brien. The former Flat performer carries the colours of JP McManus and undoubtedly evokes memories of the stable's brilliant Champion Hurdler, Istabraq.

Willie Mullins has two shots at the prize with Abbyssial and Adriana Des Mottes. The former accounted for the latter at Fairyhouse in February although both have been largely friendless in the ante-post markets.

Ballyglasheen, who won the Trial for this race at the course at odds of 66/1 also stands his ground for Evan Williams.

The field is completed by Achtung, Amoruccio, Cherry Tiger and Lindenhurst.
