Rock On Ruby: Sights switched at Plumpton

Harry Fry is taking nothing for granted as Rock On Ruby embarks on a career over fences at Plumpton on Monday.

The eight-year-old reached the pinnacle over the smaller obstacles with victory in the Champion Hurdle in 2012 and he was also runner-up to Hurricane Fly in the Cheltenham showpiece last March.

Fry believes that counts for nothing despite Rock On Ruby facing just two rivals in the Winter Gala Novices' Chase.

The Dorset trainer is looking for a clear round and a confidence-building performance from Rock On Ruby.

"There's just three runners tomorrow but it's the start of a new chapter in his career. He's taken well to fences at home and now we've got to try to take that to the racecourse," said Fry.

"It's not a case of what he's done before, that counts for nothing. We're starting from scratch and at the bottom of the ladder.

"We've got to work our way up and get the confidence and experience into him over the larger obstacles before we start aiming too high.

"We just hopefully want to get a clear round into him on which we can build on and make firm plans and take it from there."

Taking on Rock On Ruby is Mark Gillard's Lambs Cross, who has had plenty of experience over fences and opened his account at that discipline in a two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase at Ffos Las last month.

The other runner is Zoe Davison's Lindsay's Dream, who is making her debut over the bigger obstacles.
