Hidden Cyclone: Carries plenty of confidence from connections

Shark Hanlon believes Hidden Cyclone has plenty in his favour ahead of the Southampton Goodwill Chase at Listowel on Friday.

The eight-year-old was considered to be a Cheltenham Gold Cup prospect by connections after a good year as a novice hurdler and a sound start to his chasing career.

After two wins early last season, he was thrown into the top level against the best in the Lexus and was still in front turning for home before weakening into eighth.

He then shouldered a big weight to finish sixth in a competitive handicap but fell when already well beaten in the Red Mills Chase at Navan.

He ran much better on his latest start at the Galway Festival when second to Rathlin and Hanlon is hoping he can get back on track tomorrow.

"Hidden Cyclone is in great form," he said.

"Tomorrow the ground will be in his favour, the trip will be in his favour and with a bit of luck I expect him to win.

"I had him entered to run last week but the ground was too fast. There'll be no excuses on that score this time.

"He'll be fitter than he was at Galway so he should run well."

Taking him on is Tom Cooper's veteran Forpadydeplasterer, who ran well for a long way in the Kerry National on Wednesday before fading to finish ninth.

Jim Culloty's Spring Heeled looks a chaser on the up after winning a decent event at Killarney but the ratings suggest Hidden Cyclone has most to fear from the Charlie Swan-trained Tribes And Banner, who has switched between hurdles and fences with a degree of success this summer.

Last year's Galway Plate winner Bob Lingo is another classy individual engaged while Chaninbar and Schelm make up the interesting seven-runner field.
