Brian Meehan: Trains Testudo
Brian Meehan says that he expects Testudo to go well in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket on Thursday after some "eye-opening" gallops at home.
The twice-raced three-year-old won a 10-furlong Sandown maiden last time out and steps up in class and trip in a race that can serve as a trial for the St Leger.
Owned by the Sangster Family, Meehan would not be in the least bit surprised were he to leave his previous form way behind.
Writing on his website Meehan said: "This Duke of Marmalade colt made a very promising start at Newbury and then followed up stylishly, making most, over 10 furlongs in a strong Sandown maiden five weeks ago.
"His home work since has been eye-opening and it would not be a surprise if he were to match these more experienced Group Three opponents going three furlongs further."
Clive Brittain runs the only filly in the race, Jathabah, who finished third in the Cheshire Oaks and fourth in a Listed race at Newbury on her last two starts
"She's progressing well and has run very well the last twice. I expect her to run a very big race," said Brittain.
"There's not much between many of them on ratings and I was going to run her in the Lancashire Oaks but came for this instead."
John Gosden's Feel Like Dancing went down narrowly to Leading Light at Royal Ascot in the Queen's Vase and his jockey William Buick feels that run has brought him on a good deal.
Buick told At The Races: "He ran very well at Ascot and he's come on a lot.
"The trip should suit him and hopefully the ground will suit him as well. He's improved."
