Richard Fahey: Runs Gabrial's Kaka
Richard Fahey admits the unbeaten Gabrial's Kaka will need to step up markedly on his previous form if he is to maintain the perfect start to his career in the Investec Derby Trial at Epsom on Wednesday.
As the Dr Marwan Koukash-owned three-year-old is a gelding, he is not eligible to run in the Derby itself but that did not stop Goldoni winning 12 months ago. Any colt that wins receives a wildcard entry for the Classic and £50,000 is available in prize money.
"He's got to improve on what he's done but Marwan was keen to go," said Fahey. "He's won at the track which is a help so we'll just see how he gets on."
John Gosden runs Hoarding while Mark Johsnton's Mister Impatience was very impressive in soft ground at Doncaster earlier in the season.
Hughie Morrison will let Another Cocktail take his chance despite his trainer's fears the 10-furlong trip is too sharp.
"Another Cocktail has come out of his win at Lingfield fine and looks well," said Morrison.
"I am happy with how he has done over the winter and he is a fairly straightforward horse. He has got a bit of hot blood in him but he doesn't really mean it.
"The Derby Trial looks a nice race to go for but I would prefer it if it was over a mile and a half. The drop back in trip is a concern and if it was a £20,000 race we probably wouldn't be running.
"We can always step him up in class later in the season and because we have left him in the Derby, we will probably end up aiming higher than we should be.
"The Derby is the dream but I don't know if we would look at another trial after Wednesday because he will have had two quick runs. We could freshen him up and look at the Derby or Royal Ascot.
"He should make up into a proper stayer in time because he has the pedigree."
