Ambion Wood: Set to debut over fences
Victor Dartnall is looking forward to giving Ambion Wood his first run over fences in the Royal Castle Hotel Beginners Chase at Exeter on Tuesday.
The Devon trainer described Ambion Wood as a "natural" over the bigger obstacles as he faces seven rivals over two miles, three and a half furlongs.
The Oscar gelding was a useful staying novice over hurdles last term, winning three times including a Grade Three handicap at Sandown.
Dartnall had to delay Ambion Wood's fencing debut after he was forced to close his stables for several weeks due to an outbreak of equine herpes in November.
He had his first runners since then at the weekend, but is still seeking a comeback winner.
"He's schooled very well, he seems a natural and we're very happy with him," said the trainer.
"He's been working very well and he seems very well so we'll see how we go.
"He came back in when all the rest came in. We've just been delayed by our problems. He's not had any specific problems himself."
Among the opposition are David Pipe's Buddy Bolero, the Emma Lavelle-trained Off The Ground and Theatrical Star from Colin Tizzard's stable.
