'Sandwich row' in Australia leads to withdrawals

NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 18: Food on display at Stacked: A Sandwich Showdown presented by Martin's Famous Potato Rolls hosted by Restaurant: Impossible's Ro

A row over a sandwich appears to have been the reason for a trainer in Australia withdrawing three of his horses at a meeting at Racing.com Park in Victoria.

Bryce Stananway's Entirely Perfect, Trinidadian and Travelling Wilbury were taken out following what www.racing.com reported was a row with a Pakenham Racing Club official after the trainer was said to have been denied a sandwich in the area for winning connections.

Stanaway had saddled two unplaced runners at the fixture.

Steward Taylor Wilson said: "Bryce requested that his last three horses for the day be scratched.

"There was an issue with the club, we're led to believe, he's put forward his side of what's occurred - he was a bit disappointed with the way the club handled an issue that he had.

"We've yet to talk to the club in regards to that, but we will be doing that before the end of the day.

"At the end of the day, we acceded to his request and authorised the scratching of three horses.

"As far as we're concerned, he wasn't prepared to run his horses today and what the argument about is neither here nor there, we're dealing with the racing of horses and not any catering issues that may or may not have occurred."
