Rebel Fitz is likely to be ready for a return to action at Listowel in September.
Trainer Michael Winters has one eye on the mile-and-three-quarter Flat race his classy and versatile performer won last autumn as the probable starting point.
Though Rebel Fitz is back in light work after recovering from the injury that has kept him off the track since he won the Grade Two Istabraq Hurdle at Tipperary last October, Winters feels time is against the 10-year-old being ready for the Galway Festival in late July and early August.
"He's very good and is just starting back in work now. We are probably a little bit behind schedule," said the Cork handler.
"I think Galway will come a fraction too soon for us so he may go back to Listowel. If he's qualified, he'd go for the race he won last September.
"It would be a great race to win again as it's on the Flat and there are no stalls. That race may be ideal for him. He'd be right by then because he's doing road-work now and he's cantering. We're delighted with him and he's been running around in the field as well. Everything is good. The little bit of swelling he had below the joint has gone."
