Arod could be stepped back into Group One company after making a pleasing return to action at Newmarket on Thursday.

The four-year old claimed second spot behind French Navy in the Group Three Earl of Sefton Stakes on his first racecourse appearance since finishing fifth in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York last August.

Connections are now toying with the idea of returning him to the top level, with the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 16 under consideration for the Peter Chapple-Hyam trained colt.

David Redvers, racing manager to owners Qatar Racing, said: "We were delighted with the run at Newmarket, he was beaten by a good horse that on the day just sneaked up on him.

"He's a top-class horse and that was the first step back on the road.

"At the moment, we are looking at running him next in either the Lockinge or the Diomed (Epsom).

"If we think that he has a realistic chance of winning the Lockinge he will go for that as the race has great prize-money and it is a fair track which should suit him well."
