Rae Guest has issued an upbeat bulletin on the well-being of California Chrome following his arrival in Britain.

Last year's Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner arrived at the Newmarket handler's yard on Wednesday from Dubai where he finished second behind Prince Bishop in last weekend's Dubai World Cup.

It is expected that the Art Sherman-trained colt will be geared up for a shot at the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot during his stay with the Newmarket handler, but may first take in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

Guest said: "He came over at 9pm last night and seems to have taken the journey well. He looks great and has eaten up last night. We will check him again later today but it all looks good.

"We have got him in a separate barn at the moment with Mirza, who has also come back from Dubai, which we use for quarantined horses.

"He will have an easy 10 days as he has had two long journeys and a hard race, we will then speak to owners and see where we go. He may have a little walk or trot if he gets a bit too fresh."

Although Guest is no stranger to looking after Group-class horses, he feels it is a privilege to have a horse of California Chrome's calibre in his stables.
