Future plans for Baileys Concerto hinge on a crucial scan on Monday morning after he disappointingly returned with an injury following his fantastic effort in Saturday's Skybet Chase at Doncaster.
Dianne Sayer's nine-year-old was rated just 96 when winning his first race over fences at Hexham in March of last year, but having won four chases since, as well as a couple of hurdle races, he now has a mark in the 130s.
He faced his toughest assignment to date in the race formerly known as The Great Yorkshire Chase on Town Moor on Saturday and performed tremendously to fill the runner-up spot behind the Tony McCoy-ridden If In Doubt.
Sayer is keeping her fingers crossed she will be able to aim her charge at further lofty targets this spring.
She said: "We're all very proud of him. He's been a superstar for us and has been the making of the yard really.
"Unfortunately he has come back with a slight injury. He's got a puncture wound to his off-fore and there is some filling and heat in there.
"We're hoping it is just a bit of an infection, but we won't know whether he's done any damage to the tendon until we have him scanned on Monday.
"He is a bit of a strange character and does react to anything, so I'm hoping it's just something minor, but we'll see how things are tomorrow and that will tell us what we might be able to do next.
"It might just be a couple of weeks or it might be a bit longer."
