A review of the pick of the action from Tuesday's meeting at Sedgefield where it was 13th time lucky for Generous Chief.

It was 13th time lucky for Generous Chief, who lifted the feature N.E.S. Services Ltd Novices' Handicap Chase at Sedgefield.

Visored for the first time, Chris Grant's six-year-old duly dispensed of the only two other finishers in a four-horse affair to take the £4,679 first prize.

Brian Hughes, who was completing a double, let his mount stride on five fences from home in the three-mile-three-furlong slog.

Generous Chief (7-2) went on to win unchallenged by 22 lengths from Strike Fast. Silver Dragon was last of three after Apache Pilot fell early on.

"It's hard work, he's got his turn today and his future was always going to be over fences," Grant told At The Races.

"We're 10 minutes down the road so he'll probably come here on a regular basis. It's local people that own him.

"He showed a little bit over hurdles. He's had a couple of runs over fences now. He's going the right way. We put the visor on just to sharpen him up and it's helped."

Hughes had earlier collected on Nautical Twilight, who was finally rewarded for her consistency in the Niramax Group Ltd Handicap Hurdle.

Malcolm Jefferson's four-year-old had finished second on her two previous starts and went one better under an enterprising ride to strike at the 12th attempt.

Hughes took the sting out of the opposition when kicking Nautical Twilight (9-2) on with half-a-mile left and went on to win by six lengths from Serenity Now, despite tiring in the holding ground.

Serenity Now's jockey Danny Cook was given a one-day ban for careless riding. He will sit out December 22.

Ballydague Lady (8-11 favourite) made the journey from Neil Mulholland's Wiltshire base worthwhile when landing the Manorside Wynyard Handicap Chase.

A winner at Fontwell on her previous start, Ballydague Lady was three lengths too strong for Roseville Cottage in a four-horse affair.

Winning jockey Dougie Costello said: "She's a tough mare and has been well placed. She's not a very scopey mare so Neil told me not to ask her any big questions at the fences."

Master Dee (6-4 favourite) was made to work hard for victory in the Wynyard Park "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.

Quick Brew pressed Donald McCain's charge from three out, but Master Dee pulled out enough for Jason Maguire to score by a length and a half.

"He was always going to win. I had a bit more speed than the other horse leaving the back straight and when he closed on me again going to the last, he was going to pick up again," said Maguire.

The Brian Harding-ridden Baraboy (7-2) got the better of Beyondtemptation by a length and a quarter after a close fight for the Seneca Homes Novices' Handicap Hurdle.

Winning trainer Barry Murtagh said: "It is hard work, but they did go hard in front and the plan was just for him to take his time.

"It was a good run (when second) at Ayr last time and if he reproduced that he wasn't going to be far away. He doesn't mind the ground."

Dibdabs (25-1) survived a mistake at the final flight to outpoint Waterclock and take the Gondola Run Maiden Hurdle in the hands of 5lb claimer Daragh Bourke.

Experienced point-to-pointer Skylander (15-8 joint-favourite) stepped up on his bumper debut third to easily win the Wynyard Park House Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race for Devon trainer David Pipe and jockey Tom Scudamore.
