Al Ferof is on course for the William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day following his impressive return to action at Ascot last Saturday.
The Paul Nicholls-trained grey took the Amlin Chase for the second successive year to show he was over the ulcer problem that had been affecting him for some time.
Al Ferof was third behind stablemate Silviniaco Conti in the Christmas feature last year and his owner John Hales is delighted his smart horse has come back to form.
"We were delighted with him (at Ascot). It showed what a class act he is, but he was full of ulcers even after three months out at grass," he said.
"We treated him and he's put on plenty of condition and extra substance. He goes for the King George now."
