Testing going essential for Harry Topper after Haydock flop

Kim Bailey is considering a crack at either the Coral Welsh National or the Lexus Chase next with Harry Topper.

The seven-year-old was pulled up on his seasonal return in the Betfair Chase, with Bailey reporting his charge to be unsuited by the ground in the Grade One feature at Haydock.

He is now eyeing a run at either Chepstow or Leopardstown over the Christmas period, although ground conditions will dictate his plans.

The trainer told www.kimbaileyracing.com: "Harry Topper jumped off handy and jumped the first circuit very well, but the writing was on the wall early enough as he was struggle to keep up with the pace and a mistake at the open ditch meant that he lost his position and was dropping back. Jason (Maguire) wisely pulled him up.

"Harry Topper is fine and a bit stiff after his race, but it does make me realise that for him to be at his very best in those sort of fields, then he has to have the worst of ground. The softer and slower the better.
