Derby winner not 100 percent certain to head to Ireland

Connections of Workforce will not rush into a decision on the horse's future following his seven-length triumph in the Investec Derby. Sir Michael Stoute's colt shaved a second off the course record at Epsom set by Lammtarra in 1995, on only his third racecourse appearance. The Irish Derby was quickly named as the horse's next likely target although plans will be put on hold as connections revel in the horse's new fame. "It was a very exciting performance and he's come out of the race absolutely fine," said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah. "It really was a remarkable performance for a horse so inexperienced, and for him to break the course record is something else. "Sir Michael (Stoute) was obviously worried about his lack of experience beforehand and would have preferred to have given him another run, but it all worked out well on the day, which is great. "The Irish Derby would look the obvious next step, but we'll just see how the horse takes this race and sit down and make a plan for the rest of the season. "Where he goes next will obviously have an impact on his following race, so we just want to make sure we take the correct route with him." Meanwhile, the same owner's Oaks failures - Aviate and Timepiece - are reported to be none the worse for the exertions. "The two fillies came out of the Oaks fine and we'll just have to see where we go with them now," added Grimthorpe. "I don't think Aviate really stayed the mile and a half and Timepiece didn't really act on the track."
