Ballydoyle second string attracts support on Friday

Jan Vermeer may have been the choice of jockey Johnny Murtagh but the latest money has come for stablemate Midas Touch ahead of the Investec Derby. Aiden O'Brien's second string is now only 11/2 with Sky Bet for Saturday's showpiece with Jan Vermeer out to 2/1. Midas Touch, the mount of Colm O'Donoghue, finished behind his stable companion on two occasions last season, but returned to action with a confident victory in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial. And his big-race jockey is hopeful of a bold show. "I hope he has a live chance. The trial he won at Leopardstown has always been a very good one," said O'Donoghue. "He did it workmanlike, but he did a very good time, so hopefully he has come forward from the run and will run a good race." However, Murtagh insists Jan Vermeer is the one to beat. "I think he's the ideal horse for Epsom as he seems to have everything," said Murtagh. "He has speed, stamina and good balance, so I'm quietly confident he's going to run a huge race. "He's a very straightforward horse and has a good temperament, I think he'd go on most ground. "He's never run over a mile and a half yet so we don't quite know (if he stays), but the way he travels and relaxes in his races will give him every chance."
