A review of the rest of the action from Haydock Park on Old Newton Cup day.

Cymro battled on dourly to land a narrow success in the bet365 Handicap at Haydock.

The Tom Dascombe-trained colt took over the lead from Jupiter Custos over a furlong out and the 9-2 shot just had enough left in the tank to hold Lord Ben Stack by a neck in the hands of Richard Kingscote.

"He won a nice maiden at Chester and beat Sir Isaac Newton, then we sent him to Epsom where the ground was a bit too quick for him. He's a big, strong horse that enjoys good ground," said Dascombe's assistant Colin Gorman.

"He stuck on well and battled all the way to the line. There is still a lot of improvement to come from this horse this year and next year.

"I'm delighted for the owner (Derek Passant) who had Newera win here last night."

Dascombe and Kingscote also struck with Angelic Lord (4-1) who proved a length too good for Intibaah in the bet365.com Conditions Stakes.

"He had very good two-year-old form and we were gutted when he just got beat in Lingfield's Spring Cup and then he lost his way a bit until he showed the right signs in a good sprint at Windsor (won by Tropics)," said Gorman.

"He's a nice horse who will be a better sprinter next year."

After his big-race win on Lady Tiana in the Lancashire Oaks, Graham Lee doubled up on Bapak Asmara (2-1 favourite) in the Casino At bet365.com Handicap.

The in-form rider was happy to let Snow Cloud set the pace in this five-furlong dash before unleashing Kevin Ryan's charge with a powerful run which saw him pull three and three-quarter lengths clear in a four-horse affair.

Trainer Chris Dwyer would like to run Flexible Flyer (11/2) in the Ayr Silver Cup after the sprinter gave Silvestre de Sousa a double on the day (following Notarised's success) in the bet365.com Handicap.

"He's a bit tricky in the stalls so I asked for him to be put in last today and it worked. Silvestre said he was always happy," said Dwyer.

"There might be a nice handicap in him, maybe a Silver Cup at Ayr."

The Timothy Jarvis-trained Above The Rest (8-1) got the better of Royal Seal by three-quarters of a length to take the concluding Bingo At bet365 Handicap under 5lb claimer Jordan Vaughan.

"He ran very well last time at Doncaster. There were no excuses, he just got beat by a better horse (Free Code)," said Jarvis.

"We'll just keep going with him and this is his best trip (seven furlongs)."
