Tom Daley delighted the crowd at the London Aquatics Centre by winning the men's 10m platform at the FINA Diving World Series on Sunday.

The 20-year-old from Plymouth, bronze medallist off the same boards at the London 2012 Olympics, scored 554.05 points for his six dives to win by 53.30 points from China's Yang Jian and 47.45 from Qiu Bo.

Daley, who moved to London in January 2014, said: "It's always amazing to come and compete in front of the home crowd and be here in London, where I train every day. All my friends and family were here watching.

"It's the top divers in the world. It was a great chance to get out there, compete against the best and I'm so happy to not just have won, but I've won by quite a margin, which is really good."

Daley led after each of his six dives in a performance which bodes well for the World Championships in Kazan, Russia, later this year and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Daley is confident of scoring even more highly in future.

"The main aim for this year is to qualify my Olympic spot," Daley added.

"There are still lots of things I need to improve on. I think I've still got another 50, 60 points in the tank.

"For me it's just about making sure I'm working as hard as I possibly can where I know that I can do it every single time.

"In training I dive better than that consistently and regularly. It's about doing it in competition.

"I'm waiting for the day when I do all my dives like I do in training every day. I know that I can go over 600 points.

"I want to get to the point where I can be pushing the world record."

Daley was thrilled with his second dive, a forward 3 1/2 somersault 1 twist, known as the twister, which scored 99.00.

"The new dive went amazingly well. It's the highest I've ever scored on any twisting dive in my life," added Daley, whose best dive was his back three-and-a-half somersault, which scored 102.60.
