Perri Shakes-Drayton: Celebrating London place
Perri Shakes-Drayton and Nicola Sanders have been celebrating being named in Great Britain's athletics squad for the London 2012 Olympics.
Having already qualified for the team, 400m hurdle star Perri already knew she would be going to London, but getting the official confirmation proved to be a real buzz.
She is in great form and with home field advantage she should be a main medal contender for GB at the Olympic Stadium this summer.
"It feels wicked to be officially named in the GB squad," said Perri.
"Having won the trials and run the 'A' standard, I knew I would be going to the Games but receiving a letter in the post and seeing my name included in Team GB makes it that much more real.
"I've got lots of hard work to do still and this news just makes me more determined to get in the best shape possible so that when I'm on that start line, I know I'll be doing myself, my coach and all my friends and family from east London proud."
Nicola had not had the best result in the UK Trials and was unable to then have another crack at the 400m in the European Championships in Helsinki.
However, the former World Championship silver medallist is still a valuable member of the powerful 4x400m relay team - who claimed World Indoor gold this year.
Nicola will now be hoping to upgrade that to an Olympic medal in the summer, and if she does it could be a double celebration for Perri who also takes part in the relay team.
"I'm very pleased!" said Nicola.
"I am disappointed my body didn't allow me a final crack at an individual spot in Helsinki but so excited and proud to be part of Team GB!"
