Glover Teixeira earned a fight for the light-heavyweight championship after finishing Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28 in Brazil.

He needed fewer than three minutes to knock Bader out in front of a hometown crowd in Belo Horizonte, but Teixeira didn't have everything his own way.

The Brazilian overcame adversity for the first time inside the Octagon after Bader dominated the opening exchanges.

Teixeira looked on the brink of defeat after being wobbled then knocked down, but responded with a left hook that flattened Bader. The fight was stopped via ground strikes after 2:55 minutes.

"I was disappointed he was able to knock me down," critiqued the victor after his Knockout of the Night.

Teixeira will now meet the winner of Jon Jones v Alexander Gustafsson for the 205 pound title.

"I'm telling you, this belt is mine," he added.

The watching champion Jones responded by tweeting "speed kills" - seemingly referencing his perceived advantage over Teixeira.

The 33-year-old, a late developer, has won his last 20 fights including five impressive UFC outings.

Previously at UFC Fight Night 28, Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza and Joseph Benavidez knocked out Yushin Okami and Jussier Formiga respectively.

Piotr Hallman submitted Francisco Trinaldo and Rafael Natal won a decision over Tor Troeng.
