An impassioned Sami Zayn slapped Adrian Neville on NXT – before vowing to leave Takeover: R Evolution with the Newcastle grappler’s title.

Zayn had previously declared that he would quit WWE if he failed to pluck the NXT Championship on December 11 after suffering a series of near misses while chasing the belt in the past.

However, the Canadian star did not seem nervous when he went face-to-face with Neville on Thursday evening, despite the champion stating his challenger was “too nice” to win his strap.

Neville eventually offered Zayn his hand but the fired-up Quebecer, who lost a title match to his rival as recently as two weeks ago, rejected that show of respect and clumped the Brit instead.

Aiden English and Simon Gotch aka The Vaudevillains will also fight for gold at Takeover: R Evolution when they battle Sin Cara and Kalisto for the NXT Tag Team Titles.

English and Gotch warmed up for that contest by mocking their masked adversaries but also showed their acumen between the ropes en route to besting Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy.

The second tag-team match to take place next Thursday will see Konnor and Viktor of The Ascension tackle international sensations Hideo Itami and Finn Balor following weeks of unsanctioned brawls.

The Ascension were absent in Orlando but Itami and Balor made a big splash, downing the tandem of Tyson Kidd and Tyler Breeze.

Itami secured the win, clocking Breeze with a kick, while, post-match, Balor informed Konnor and Viktor to come prepared at R Evolution.

Meanwhile, NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte’s glee at knocking off a local competitor quickly evaporated when she was attacked by her R Evolution challenger Sasha Banks.

Plus, the game of one-upmanship between Baron Corbin and Bull Dempsey went in favour of the former this week, with the onetime gridiron player dispatching Steve Cutler in 13 seconds after Dempsey had taken slightly longer to maul Elias Samson.
