Cody Rhodes and Goldust have lost a few matches recently - but they won when it mattered on Friday Night Smackdown.

The WWE Tag Team Champions kept hold of their gold by defeating Wyatt Family members Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in Washington, DC, with Goldust pinning Rowan to secure the victory.

Elsewhere in the American capital, current Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston beat former Intercontinental Champion - and the man he beat to snare the belt - Curtis Axel in a non-title tussle.

Fandango, meanwhile, was unsuccessful in his pursuit of Langston's strap on Monday Night Raw and suffered another reverse on Friday evening as he was downed by The Suntan Superman, R-Truth.

The Shield kicked off Smackdown by insisting that there was no discord in their ranks - but ended it with that statement being questioned after they were vanquished by CM Punk and The Usos.

Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns initially locked horns with the Samoan twins in the show's opening bout, but that fracas ended abruptly when Ambrose jumped from the commentary booth and interfered in his stablemates' match.

The Ohioan's meddling caused Punk to emerge and Smackdown general manager, Vickie Guerrero, to sanction a six-man slobberknocker for later on, which ended when Punk cracked Ambrose with a Go to Sleep.

Plus, Nikki Bella overcame Lithuanian Diva Aksana, and Bad News Barrett delivered a message to the WWE Universe, saying that 2014 would bring them nothing but misery.
