Triple H: revealed why he cost Bryan at SummerSlam

Triple H: revealed why he cost Bryan at SummerSlam

Triple H cost Daniel Bryan the WWE Title at SummerSlam - and he explained why on Raw.

Bryan's joy at capturing John Cena's championship in Los Angeles on Sunday evening was short-lived as he was annihilated by a Pedigree from The Game which allowed Randy Orton to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and pinch the submission specialist's newly-acquired strap.

Triple H addressed his dastardly actions in the closing moments of Monday night's show, revealing that he sucker-punched Bryan because having him as champion was bad for business.

Bryan, of course, took umbrage to that claim but before he could confront the WWE's Chief Operating Officer in the ring, he fell victim to a vicious beat-down from The Shield and an RKO from Orton.

Shield members Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns also defeated Dolph Ziggler and Big Show in three-on-one handicap matches, sanctioned after the Showoff and the World's Largest Athlete made derogatory comments about Triple H's treatment of Bryan.

Elsewhere, the CM Punk-Paul Heyman antipathy continues to grow after The Second City Saint decimated Heyman's client, Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel, in Anaheim.

Heyman, whose interference contributed to Punk losing to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, told his former best friend that he would represent him again and lead him somewhere he has never been - namely the main event of WrestleMania - provided he issued an apology.

And Punk did issue an apology - saying he was sorry that he did not mutilate Heyman inside the Staples Center at the weekend before he was pinned by the Anomaly in a no disqualification encounter.

The ECW architect sent Axel to the rig to attack Punk but the former WWE Champion was more than ready for a brawl, levelling the third-generation Superstar with a steel chair and sending him crashing onto the steps courtesy of a GTS.

Plus, Cody Rhodes bested Damien Sandow for the second night in a row; Bray Wyatt - fresh from a SummerSlam victory over Kane inside a Ring of Fire - knocked off R-Truth; and the Funkadactyls vanquished Divas Champion AJ Lee and Layla.

The Usos and The Prime Time Players recorded tag team wins over 3MB's Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal, and the Real Americans respectively, while The Miz beat Wade Barrett by disqualification after he was clobbered by Fandango, the man he had SummerSlam beef with.

Alberto Del Rio, meanwhile, was cock-a-hoop after defeating an injured Sin Cara - but his mood was soured when his ex-ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, introduced his new boss, Rob van Dam - who then rushed to the ring to assault the Essence of Excellence.
