NHL: Max Pacioretty scores twice as Montreal Canadiens beat St Louis Blues

The Montreal Canadiens got back to winning ways in the NHL with a 4-1 victory over the St Louis Blues.

The Canadiens were routed 4-0 by the Pittsburgh Penguins to end a six-game winning run but bounced back at home in fine fashion.

A brace of goals from birthday boy Max Pacioretty and further strikes from Dale Weise and Lars Eller sealed victory for the Canadian side after St Louis had taken an early lead through Vladimir Tarasenko.

The Toronto Maple Leafs ended a three-game sequence without victory by beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2.

James van Riemsdyk scored twice for the Canadian franchise, with David Clarkson, Richard Panik and Roman Polak also finding the target. Alex Killorn and Steven Stamkos scored for the Lightning but it was not enough for victory.

The Detroit Red Wings recovered from 2-0 down to claim a 4-3 win against the Winnipeg Jets, with Justin Abdelkader and Tomas Tatar's third-period goals lifting them to victory.

The Dallas Stars picked up their first win in four games by beating the Arizona Coyotes 3-1, with third-period goals from John Klingberg, Cody Eakin and Jason Spezza securing the result for Lindy Ruff's side.

The Ottawa Senators, the Minnesota Wild and the Washington Capitals secured 3-2 wins against the Nashville Predators, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Colorado Avalanche respectively.

All of Ottawa's goals came in the second period, Minnesota secured victory thanks to Jason Zucker's late goal and Alex Ovechkin's goal six minutes from time sealed the points for Washington.

The Chicago Blackhawks blew 2-0 and 3-2 leads before Partick Kane's third-period goal secured them a 4-3 victory against the Calgary Flames.
