Belfast Giants extended their lead at the top of the Elite League to 13 points with a 4-3 victory over Nottingham Panthers on Thursday night.
A 54th-minute strike by Kevin Saurette was enough for the Giants to make it nine wins in a row, equalling the streak of their opponents earlier in the season.
The hosts took the lead with a goal Craig Peacock firing home after 6.57 and doubled their advantage just 31 seconds later when Cody Brookwell added a second.
Matt Ryan got the Panthers on the scoreboard and they tied things up when David Clarke netted, leaving the teams deadlocked at 2-2 after one period.
Peacock, on the powerplay at 34.30, put Belfast ahead once more, only for Petr Kalusto draw Nottingham back on terms again with just under seven minutes remaining.
However, a delayed penalty allowed Saurette to fire past Neil Conway in the visiting goal and ensure the Giants go even further clear at the summit.
In the other game to take place on Thursday, the Sheffield Steelers made it seven straight triumphs on home ice with a 6-3 result against Hull Stingrays.
Stefan Meyer grabbed two goals as Sheffield moved 6-1 in front at the start of the third period, though Jason Silverthorn and Jereme Tendler were on target to give some respectability to the final scoreline for Hull.
The result pushes the Steelers into third place in the table, their highest position so far this season.
