Newly-crowned Elite League champions Nottingham Panthers were unable to do the double over the Belfast Giants as they fell to a 5-2 defeat at the Odyssey Arena.

Nottingham beat nearest challengers Belfast 5-3 at the same venue on Friday to claim their first title since 1956 but the Giants gained a small measure of revenge in the return meeting thanks to a brace from Robby Sandrock and further goals from Andrew Fournier, Daymen Rycroft and Kevin Saurette.

Third-placed Sheffield Steelers put further distance between themselves and Coventry in fourth with an 8-3 win over the Blaze, Jeff Legue and Jonathan Phillips both grabbing braces for the victors, while fifth-placed Cardiff Devils defeated last-placed Hull Stingrays 4-2.

Elsewhere, a hat-trick from Ash Goldie earned Braehead Clan a 6-3 win over fellow strugglers Dundee Stars, while in another all-Scottish clash Fife Flyers saw off Edinburgh Capitals 5-1.
