The Boston Bruins took down the Senators
The Boston Bruins edged the Ottawa Senators 4-3 in their NHL Northeast top-of-the-table clash on Tuesday.
Dennis Seidenberg was the hero as he came up with the winner in the third period, completing a superb turnaround from 3-1 down.
The win puts the Bruins six ahead of the Canadian side.
The Pittsburgh Penguins had Evgeni Malkin to thank as they beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in a shoot-out.
Malkin drew the Pens level with the full-time buzzer looming and was the man of the moment as he scored in the second round of the shoot-out to grab the win.
A shoot-out was also required in New Jersey as the Devils beat the New York Rangers 4-3 through Ilya Kovalchuk's decisive goal, which was the only one scored in the decider.
Impressive
David Clarkson had tied it for the Devils in the last minute of normal time.
The Rangers' local rivals had a better night as the New York Islanders beat the Carolina Hurricanes largely thanks to John Tavares' impressive night's work.
Tavares scored two and set up another two.
Jiri Hudler's go-ahead strike late in the third helped secure the Detroit Red Wings a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames.
The Nashville Predators made it five wins from five with Mike Fisher's late two-goal flourish helping them inflict a 5-4 defeat on the hosting Minnesota Wild.
Bryan Little scored the sole shoot-out success as the Winnipeg Jets overcame the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1.
The Tampa Bay Lightning forced a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals in over-time while the Buffalo Sabres beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 on their own ice.
Jordan Eberle, Eric Belanger and Taylor Hall all made scoring contributions in the Edmonton Oilers' 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche while Andrew Cogliano stuck in three in the Anaheim Ducks' 4-1 over the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Vancouver Canucks needed over-time to see off the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 while the Sharks hammered the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-0 in San Jose.
