Birnstill stars as Sheffield put Edinburgh to the sword

Steve Birnstill's hat-trick helped the Sheffield Steelers to a 6-3 win over the Edinburgh Capitals.
Birnstill scored in all three periods and Matt Stephenson struck twice in the third to make the result safe for the third-placed Yorkshire side at Murrayfield Ice Arena.
The second-placed Nottingham Panthers enjoyed a 6-1 rout of Coventry Blaze, with Matthew Myers, Jordan Fox, David Clarke and Corey Neilson all on target in the final period to give the scoreline an emphatic look.
Hull Stingrays upset the Cardiff Devils in a shootout, Dmitry Rodin settling a game which stood at 1-1 after overtime, and the Fife Flyers won their all-Scottish clash with the Dundee Stars 4-1.
