Manny Machado sent the Baltimore Orioles level with the New York Yankees at the top of the American League East as his seventh-inning home run gave the Orioles a 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox.
Post-season
The win kept the Rays in touch with the Wild Card race, but the White Sox must catch Detroit if they are to reach the post-season.
Kurt Suzuki hit a two-run double in the 10th to give the
Washington Nationals a 6-4 win over the
St Louis Cardinals.
But they were prevented from claiming the National League East title as the
Atlanta Braves beat the
New York Mets on the back of 6 1/3 scoreless innings from Mike Minor.
The Cards' loss allowed the
Los Angeles Dodgers to pull to within three games in the NL Wild Card race with a 3-0 win over the
Colorado Rockies. Matt Kemp homered twice for the Dodgers.
Andrew McCutchen hit a solo shot in the ninth to give the
Pittsburgh Pirates a 2-1 walk-off win over the
Cincinnati Reds.
Corey Hart homered twice and Marco Estrada hurled eight shut-out frames as the
Milwaukee Brewers beat the
Houston Astros 9-5, while Trevor Cahill tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits, in the
Arizona Diamondbacks' 8-2 win over the
Chicago Cubs.
The
Kansas City Royals beat the
Cleveland Indians 7-6 in a game which needed 14 innings, the
Philadelphia Phillies were 9-5 winners over the
Miami Marlins and the
San Diego Padres overcame the
San Francisco Giants 7-3.
