Great Britain put up a better fight on day three of the European Championships in Lithuania but could not deliver an upset against defending champions Spain.

Needing to show some fight after a rough 90-61 loss to Turkey on Thursday, Britain recovered from a 9-2 Spanish start to stay close through the first two periods, trailing by just 38-32 at half-time.

But Spain showed their class in the third period as they began to pull clear, beginning the third period with a 20-8 spurt that put the result all but beyond doubt with 12 minutes still remaining.

Luol Deng scored 17 points to lead Britain, still without the ill Robert Archibald, while Dan Clark added 14 points.

Los Angeles Lakers star Pau Gasol led Spain with 21 points while his brother Marc had 18.
