Britain’s leading short-track speed skater Elise Christie is eyeing a return to top form in time for the World Championships in Moscow in March.

The 24-year-old completed a hat-trick of race wins last weekend after triumphing in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m at the ISU Star Class Cup event in Nottingham.

With three events coming up for the Sky Academy Sports Scholar in the next month, Christie admits she is desperate to build on her superb start of the season.

“We’ve got this, then the Europeans then the World Cup then the World Championships so it’s quite a short season to cram a lot into but it’s going to be exciting," Christie told Sportswomen on Sky Sports News HQ.

“I’m looking to peak for the Worlds. Hopefully by the World Championships I’ll be closer to top form again.”

It has been a difficult year for Christie who suffered three disqualifications at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 where she was one of the favourites to claim a gold medal.

“I’m not quite over it yet. I’m getting better and I’m sure I will be,” she said.

“I’m just trying to enjoy it and it’s hard for me to enjoy a sport that made me feel like that but I’m picking myself back up though.”

With three years left until the next Winter Olympics the Livingston-born speed skater revealed she is utilising this time to make some long overdue tweaks to her race technique.

“Previously my coach has said I need to take a step back and focus on this stuff but I’ve been too busy trying to get stronger and faster all the time,” she said.

“If I had been better in certain areas maybe I would have been able to avoid the disqualifications.”
