The New York Rangers returned to NHL action after a four-day break in style, routing the Montreal Canadiens 5-0 on Sunday.

After Friday's encounter against the Buffalo Sabres was postponed due to heavy snow in the Buffalo area, the Rangers made a fine start when Dominic Moore gave them the lead midway through the first period.

Derek Stepan and Martin St Louis added further goals in the second, allowing Carl Hagelin and Rick Nash to round out a comprehensive victory with strikes in the final period.

Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist continued his side's recent fine run of defensive form, making 21 saves as the Rangers earned their second successive shutout win.

The St Louis Blues twice fought back from a goal down to seal a 4-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets.

Jaden Schwartz drew the Blues level after Bryan Little had opened the scoring in the first period and David Backes equalised after Jim Slater had given the Jets a 2-1 lead in the second.

Third-period goals from Ryan Reaves and Paul Stastny then secured victory for the Blues.

Jannik Hansen scored his first career hat-trick as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1. He gave his team the lead in the first period, but they were pegged back when Kris Versteeg levelled in the second.

However Hansen then scored twice in the third period, either side of a Radim Vrbata strike, to notch his maiden treble and wrap up victory for Vancouver.

Patrick Maroon scored his first goal of the season to lift the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 triumph against the Arizona Coyotes.
