British Skeleton head coach Andi Schmid believes Shelley Rudman and Lizzy Yarnold have a strong chance of securing medals at next year's Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Austrian-born Schmid guided Amy Williams to gold in Vancouver in 2010 and has been a key figure behind the emergence of Rudman and Yarnold as world-class competitors.

Reigning world champion Rudman and Yarnold begin the Olympic season along with the rest of the Great Britain team at the opening World Cup in Calgary on Friday and Schmidt is in positive mood.

"Shelley has a lot of experience so she knows more how to deal with the pressure and everything around her," he said.

"She already has her medal and a clear goal possibly to win the gold.

"For Lizzy it is about getting the experience and dealing with the pressure.

"But with her results over the last two years, I think there is a good chance for her as well if everything goes right."

Rudman was a surprise Olympic silver medallist in Turin in 2006 and her success at the World Championships in St Moritz earlier this year raised hopes she can go on to claim gold in Russia.

Former world junior champion Yarnold won last year's equivalent World Cup race in Calgary in her first full season on the senior circuit and went on to secure World Championship bronze.

Donna Creighton, who was rated 6th overall in the FIBT world rankings in the 2010/11 season, is the third member of the British women's team.
