Nottingham Panthers wrapped up a trophy double after hanging on to their aggregate lead against Sheffield Steelers and winning the Challenge Cup.

Nottingham actually lost 2-1 on the night but, having won the first leg 4-1 at Sheffield, they triumphed 5-3 on aggregate.

The Panthers have already been crowned Elite League champions and still have the play-offs to come.

But they had to sweat a bit before they could add the Challenge Cup to their trophy cabinet, despite their big advantage from the first leg.

Goals for Sheffield from Lee Esders late in the first period and Steve Goertzen early in the second cut the deficit to one goal.

But Bruce Graham then bagged a powerplay goal to settle the Panthers nerves and seal a 5-3 victory.

In the 10 years the Elite League has existed, this was the Panthers' sixth victory in the Challenge Cup.
