Robin Cousins Quotes of the week
There are already over 198,000 participants in the United Kingdom and members of the British Olympic team - who will be gunning for medals at London 2012 - told Sky Sports that is a perfect pastime for strengthening both your body and team-work skills.
Britain will have a squad of eight girls, as well as a duet, competing at the Games this summer. Routines last for four minutes, two-thirds of which takes place under water, and competitors are judged on technical merit and artistic impression.
Disciplined
1980 Olympic figure skating champion Robin Cousins is working closely with the team as they prepare to perform in London.
He saluted the girls' hard work and hopes a successful 2012 Games can inspire a new generation to take up synchronised swimming.
"They are possibly one of the most disciplined sporting groups I've ever had the pleasure of working with; it's phenomenal how passionate they are," said Cousins.
"Maybe because of the Olympics being here in our home country, girls will be able to put synchro on the map and lots of young girls will say: 'I want to have a go'."
