British swimmer Keri-Anne Payne joins the Sky Sports News studio to talk about the upcoming 'Duel in the pool' in Glasgow.

Sky Bet

Glasgow will play host when the greatest swimmers in Europe face the world's number one swimming nation, the USA, this weekend.

With many 2012 Olympic Champions and 2013 World Champions battling it out for supremacy in swimming's "Ryder Cup" it promises to be an exciting event.

The format consists of 13 individual events and two relay events. Each team can put in up to four swimmers into the individual events with only the top three scoring points. Over the two days the points all get totalled up and the winner is the team that has accumulated the most points.

"Europe also have Hannah Miley, Fran Halsall and Ranomi Kromowidjojo from the Netherlands who is a really good sprinter - Ranomi and Fran should really take it to the American's in the sprints."

The Americans have won the last two Duel in the Pools over Europe but two-time world 10km open water swimming champion Keri-Anne Payne believes this year it is Europe's chance to take the glory.

"If there was a year where Europe could get that win then this is definitely that year," explained Payne.

"They may not have the Michael Phelps factor anymore and it is a shame Ryan Lochte has pulled out, but they still have some world class swimmers coming over.

"It is going to be really tough against the likes of Chloe Sutton and Katie Ledecky but Europe have got some quality of their own."

Firepower

French stars Camille Muffat, Florent Manaudou, Fred Bousquet and Jeremy Stravius may have pulled out of the Europe team but Payne says that there is still plenty of firepower to help Europe to their first victory.

"Europe have the likes of Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson, who has just won a medal at the European short course where he was quite some way under the British record for the 100m breaststroke.

"Europe also have Hannah Miley, Fran Halsall and Ranomi Kromowidjojo from the Netherlands who is a really good sprinter - Ranomi and Fran should really take it to the Americans in the sprints.

"I am also really looking forward to Jaz Carlin swimming again. She had a disappointing world championships but had an amazing run-up to the worlds and I think she will put up a really big fight against Olympic champion Ledecky in the 800m freestyle."

As well as some established names, Payne is also looking forward to seeing some promising youngsters in action - especially some of her Warrenders swim club teammates.

"I train with backstroker Craig McNally so I am really looking forward to seeing him. On the short course he is really good on the turns and was fifth in the world championship so he will enjoy going up against Olympic Champion Tyler Clary."

'Duel in the Pool' sees Europe take on USA at Glasgow's Tollcross International Swimming Centre live on Sky Sports. Watch from 7pm on Friday 20 and 2:15pm on Saturday 21 live on Sky Sports 2.
