London 2012

Weymouth and Portland

Weymouth and Portland in Dorset provides some of the best sailing waters in the UK with facilities on land to match.

The local sailing academy has already hosted numerous international sailing events including the 2006 ISAF World Youth Championships attended by over 60 nations.

The harbour became the first completed 2012 Games venue on November 28, 2008.

Around £21m was spent redeveloping the area which now includes a commercial marina with 250 berths to be used during the Olympics and Paralympics.

Other improvements include a new permanent 250m slipway and new lifting facilities.

Sailing will be a ticket-free event with spectators able to watch from the shore outside the marina or from any point along the coastline.
