St James' Park is the oldest and biggest football stadium in the North East of England, and the sixth biggest in the UK.
It is the home of Newcastle football club who currently play in the Premier League and were once managed by the late Sir Bobby Robson.
Newcastle, nicknamed the Magpies or the Toon, have won four First Division titles and six FA Cups, although the last was in 1955.
St James' park will host a total of nine matches during the 2012 Games, including a quarter-final in both the men's and women's competitions.
It will be one of six Olympic football venues, the others being Wembley, the Millennium Stadium, Hampden Park, Old Trafford and Coventry's Ricoh Arena.
