Heather Watson: Will play in the Olympic singles tournament
British number one Heather Watson will compete in the Olympic singles after all.
Watson had initially only been due to compete in the doubles, alongside Laura Robson, as at the entry deadline in June she was ranked too low.
Compatriots Anne Keothavong and Elena Baltacha - then ranked above Watson - were handed wild cards by organisers, but the Guernsey youngster missed out.
However, Watson's ranking has since risen - she recently replaced Keothavong as British number one - and when Alona Bondarenko withdrew on Tuesday due to injury, Watson was called into the field of 64.
The draw for the tournament takes place on Thursday morning, with the event getting under way at Wimbledon on Saturday.
