Martyn Rooney: Second place in Madrid
Martyn Rooney produced a strong performance as he claimed second place in the 400 metres at the Meeting de Atletismo in Madrid on Saturday.
The Croydon-born athlete clocked 45.17 seconds as behind World Championship bronze medallist Kevin Borlee who won in 45.09secs.
Chris Tomlinson was second in the long jump with 8.06m, but fellow Briton Greg Rutherford, who leads the world rankings, pulled out after three jumps and finished eighth.
Olympic medal contender Rutherford, whose best effort was 7.81m, Tweeted: "Not a great night. Went into cramp and pulled out of the meet."
Australia's world silver medallist Mitchell Watt won in 8.26m, with all distances wind assisted.
Jack Green finished second in the 400m hurdles in 49.65, 0.02 behind American Justin Gaymon.
Lawrence Clarke ran a windy 13.29 to finish third in the 100m hurdles, with Andy Pozzi joint fifth in 13.51.
Margaret Adeoye was fifth in the 200m, while Cayman Island sprinter Kemar Hyman won the 100m in 9.95, a national record.
