London 2012

Josh Taylor

Josh is the only member of the team from Scotland and will bid to become their first medalist since Dick McTaggart in 1960.

A junior taekwondo champion, he turned to boxing at 15 and quickly established himself as one of the best amateurs north of the border.

Fascinating Facts

  • Josh is looking to emulate countryman Dick McTaggart, another lightweight who won gold in Melbourne in 1956.

He picked up a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, losing 11-3 to Tom Stalker in the final, before joining the Team GB set-up in Sheffield.

Last year he moved up to light-welterweight for the European and world Championships, but with Stalker also making the step up he switched back to the lower weight.

The move paid off, with Taylor reaching the last four in the final qualifying event in Turkey to gain qualification for the Games.
