Mo Farah: Chilling warning to his rivals

Mo Farah has issued a chilling warning to his rivals ahead of next month's World Championships in Moscow by declaring he has improved since claiming double gold at the London Olympics.

Farah races in the 3,000m at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games in the Olympic Stadium on Saturday, the scene of his 5,000m and 10,000m glory in 2012.

The Oregon-bases athlete goes into the race having secured the European 1500m record in Monaco on Friday and will have Dave Moorcroft's 31-year-old British 3,000m record of seven minutes 32.79 seconds in his sights this time.

"I'm stronger, more experienced (than I was in 2012)," he said.

"I'm definitely a better athlete than I was, but you have to go and do it when it matters."

Farah's time of 3mins 28.81secs in Monaco made him the sixth fastest man in history over three and three-quarter laps of the track and he admitted even his coach Alberto Salazar was taken aback.

"It was a shock," added Farah. "You plan to run decent times and run races, but in the 1500m the plan was never to run that fast. My coach was quite surprised."

A capacity crowd will cheer on Farah and his British team-mates in Stratford this weekend and he is hoping for an atmosphere in the stadium similar to the one in evidence during London 2012.

"It would be amazing if they made the same noise," he said.

"It will never be the same again, having the Olympics at that moment, but it will be great if it is close to that."
